Solution Focus
The primary objective was to transition Martela from an On-Premise system to a cloud-based Dynamics 365 solution. This move was not only strategic but also marked a significant improvement over the previous system, receiving widespread approval from users for its enhanced capabilities. The transition was smoothly facilitated by the groundwork laid during a prior ERP upgrade, which had already addressed the major operational shifts.

Selection of the Project Manager
Marjaliisa Karjalainen was selected as the project manager after a careful interview process with several candidates. Her extensive experience in project management, especially her successful past engagements with Finitec, made her the standout choice. Her expertise, coupled with Martela's confidence in her understanding of the project's requirements and goals, were key factors in her selection. Finitec's insight into Martela's selection criteria further solidified her appointment, ensuring a perfect match for the project's needs.

Project Management and Execution
The project started with slight setbacks which were successfully recognized by Marjaliisa when she joined the project. Her ability to identify and address the issues promptly, coupled with her adaptability and strong leadership, kept the project on track despite the unforeseen delay.

Key Innovations and Best Practices
The project saw the introduction of several innovative and best practices, notably in the areas of reporting and user access rights:
  • Early inclusion of reporting: For the first time, reporting was integrated from the beginning of the project. This proactive approach allowed for the swift development and deployment of essential business reports, significantly enhancing the project's efficiency.
  • User access rights in testing: The project also refined the system's user access rights during the e2e testing phase to mirror the actual rights users would have post-deployment. This strategy improved security and compliance, setting a new standard for ERP implementations.
Marjaliisa's leadership was instrumental in navigating the complexities of the ERP implementation. Her seasoned approach, especially in managing unforeseen challenges like the migration delays, underscored her invaluable project management prowess. Finitec's professional conduct throughout the selection and execution phases perfectly complemented Martela's objectives. Marjaliisa's strategic foresight, particularly in including reporting early and refining user access rights, exemplified her deep understanding of both the technical and business dimensions of ERP implementations.
