DataOps Specialist (Cloud Engineering)

GCP, BigQuery, CI/CD

AI ROOTS DATA CASE
Join a large enterprise organization’s data platform team as a GCP DataOps Specialist, helping build an AI-assisted reliability capability for their Google Cloud data platform — hundreds of BigQuery load pipelines on Cloud Composer, streaming ingestion, and the Looker/Power BI layers that read from them.

Start

01.12.2026, ASAP

Duration

6 months

Location

Hybrid, Helsinki

Allocation

100%

In this role, you will:
  • Make production data pipelines observable and dependable — freshness and volume checks, data quality scans, alerting with clear ownership, and runbooks for recurring faults.
  • Turn manually run or experimental data pipelines into scheduled, monitored production pipelines running under service accounts, with CI/CD.
  • Build and run the reliability components on GCP: Cloud Run services, log sinks and BigQuery telemetry datasets, scheduled jobs and their IAM, all in Terraform.
  • Collect operational signals from BigQuery job history, Cloud Logging, Cloud Composer, and Dataplex into a common event model, using least-privilege access.
  • Take part in incident analysis with the team — find root causes from job history and logs, and turn findings into checks and fixes in code.
  • Work with the platform and data engineering team through pull requests, building an AI-assisted reliability capability that maps a pipeline failure’s impact to the reports and users downstream and helps the team find and fix the cause faster.
You will thrive if:
  • You have at least 5 years in data or cloud engineering, including at least 2 years running production workloads on GCP.
  • You have production Terraform experience on GCP — IAM, service accounts, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, logging and monitoring resources.
  • You have strong BigQuery and SQL skills, including INFORMATION_SCHEMA job history, partitioning, and cost-aware design.
  • You have production experience with Airflow (Cloud Composer) and Python.
  • You’re experienced with monitoring and alerting on GCP — Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, log-based metrics, and alert policies.
  • You work with a Git-based workflow including code review and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
  • Nice-to-have: You ideally hold a recent Finnish security clearance (turvallisuusselvitys), completed within the last one to two years — a recent clearance significantly speeds up Supo approval and shortens the time before production access is granted.
  • Nice-to-have: Dataplex (data quality scans, catalog, lineage) and the Data Lineage API, VPC Service Controls and IAM design for multi-project environments, SRE practices (SLOs, error budgets, incident reviews), experience building LLM/agent-based tooling (e.g. Vertex AI) in an operational setting, and Dataflow/Datastream or other streaming/CDC ingestion experience are all a plus
  • Nice-to-have: Finnish language skills (not hard requirement)
This assignment supports a large enterprise organization’s Google Cloud data platform and AI-assisted reliability capability build-out. It’s expected to start as soon as possible, targeting December 2026, running 6 months full-time, hybrid in Helsinki. Candidates should be prepared to share their CV, hourly rate, earliest start date, security clearance status (and completion date), and two relevant project references.
