We’re seeking an experienced, solutions-driven GitLab CI/CD Transformation Consultant to lead an ambitious migration of complex software build and deployment pipelines from Jenkins to GitLab and lay the foundation for a scalable, future-proof DevOps capability.
This is hands-on and advisory role where you’ll design, optimize, and implement modern pipelines, integrate DORA metrics, guide process improvements, and ensure internal teams are upskilled for ongoing success.
This is hands-on and advisory role where you’ll design, optimize, and implement modern pipelines, integrate DORA metrics, guide process improvements, and ensure internal teams are upskilled for ongoing success.
Primary Responsibilities and Objectives
- Lead the Migration: Analyze the existing CI/CD landscape and devise a clear, actionable migration plan to GitLab.
- Modernize CI/CD Pipelines: Design, build, and document scalable, shareable GitLab CI/CD pipeline templates for product development teams, including static code analysis, artifact management, and automated testing.
- Prototype & Prove: Implement a PoC pipeline in GitLab as the first step, iteratively expanding to migrate other high-priority pipelines.
- Drive Process Improvement: Review, refactor, or retire legacy pipelines, reducing technical debt and establishing a robust pipeline governance model aligned toward a vision of “one main pipeline.”
Supporting Responsibilities and Objectives
- Support Cloud Adoption: Facilitate transition toward container-based and SaaS-oriented deployment workflows in accordance with long-term visions.
- Integrate DORA Metrics: Advise on, and integrate, meaningful software delivery performance metrics (especially DORA) to foster a data-driven culture.
- Mentor & Document: Coach in-house engineers and coordinators, and create clear, practical documentation so teams can confidently own and extend new solutions.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Expertise designing and implementing complex CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitLab CI/CD, but deep Jenkins experience and migration skills also valued).
- Strong DevOps engineering background: Source control systems, build automation, testing frameworks (Robot Framework is a plus), artifact management (Artifactory), and infrastructure orchestration.
- Solid metrics-driven mindset: Experience defining, integrating, and reporting on software delivery performance (especially DORA metrics).
- Cloud and SaaS transitions: Exposure to moving on-premise pipelines/workflows to cloud or SaaS platforms.
- Windows server automation: Experience automating software installation/testing on Windows servers at scale.
- Documentation & knowledge transfer: Proven ability to produce clear, actionable technical documentation and user guides.
- Training & mentorship: Capacity to upskill, coach, and inspire less experienced co-workers.
Personal Traits
- Leadership and autonomy: Proactive, able to take the lead, work independently, and make high-impact decisions.
- Pragmatic problem-solver: Adept at simplifying complex legacy systems, and focusing on sustainable solutions, not just recreating existing setups.
- Change agent and bridge-builder: Enjoys helping organizations adapt, adopt, and embrace new ways of working; able to win trust and foster buy-in.
- Quality-obsessed: Relentless about documentation, transparency, and keeping technical debt to a minimum.
- Adaptive and curious: Thrives in evolving, complex environments, and relishes deep-diving into unfamiliar systems or tools.
Requirements
- Demonstrated senior-level experience leading major CI/CD or DevOps platform migrations, ideally to GitLab.
- Technical fluency with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, and allied DevOps toolchains.
- Background in automating build/test/deploy environments for Windows-based infrastructure.
- Experience working across multi-team, international, or regulated environments is advantageous.
- Fluency in English. Finnish language skills are an asset but not required.
- Ability and willingness to visit Jyväskylä office for key on-site requirements (not frequent, flexible otherwise).
